A Precious Gift

All praise belongs to Allah, we praise Him, we seek His help, and His forgiveness. Whosoever Allah guides is a truly guided one and whosoever Allah leaves astray no one can show him guidance.

Here's a story, an experience of a young Muslimah, which is quite interesting and worth reading:

"Two or three years was just an ordinary parents and siblings were retiring to their   per habit I performed wudhu and was about to call it a night when I felt like reading the Quran before I slept. I opened my Mushaf and began reading a part of Surah al An'aam...

While reading I came to the story of Prophet Ibrahim

(alayhi salaam) and his search for God....and while I read that page and another two pages a strange kind of peaceful feeling swept over me...after I finished I read its translation and explanation, where I read the beautiful verses of how Allah guided Prophet Ibrahim (alayhi salaam), his descendants and their family....SubhanAllah...I cried my eyes out that night...and thanked Allah that He blessed me with guidance to read His book and relate to it....

The whole time that I was reading I felt as if I were in a totally different world where it was just me and my Lord, Allah....

I was addicted to reading novels but after that night, I found a new interest for myself; there's nothing better or more pleasing than the Book of Allah (and of course other books explaining it)..............

So now, whenever I hear or read verses of the Quran which I feel are interesting or touching...I rush to read the translation and then the explanation or commentary...and then later I memorize those particular verses so that I can read them in my prayer. Alhamdulillah, Allah guided me... !! "

SubhanAllah....Isn't it amazing? I wanted to share this story or this experience because it made me realize my most important aim as a Muslimah. I also felt that all Muslims, like this sister, can also realize that this Noble Quran is full of never-ending treasures waiting to be discovered and cherished.

"O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light."(4:174)

Read in the name of your Lord:-

Allah sent us this noble Book for a purpose....With the first word of the first verse revealed;

"""""  Iqra or Read; """""   (96:1)

Muslims were ordered by Allah, the Lord of the worlds, to read, recite, understand, contemplate and practice all that He ordered.

The Quran was sent to guide us, to help us know our Lord and Creator...the path that leads to His love and His pleasure. It's a supreme manual by the Creator of the worlds, for the complex living machine called "Human" created by Him. It's a magnificent map drawn out in detail to guide us on all the roads of our life.

"....There has come to you from Allah a Light and a clear Book, by which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darkness into the light by His permission, and guides them to a straight path." (5:15-16)

Reciting, pondering & practicing:-

Unfortunate as it may seem, we have taken this noble Book of Allah for granted....we fail to give the Quran its due right!! In this modern period, many of us seem too busy to open it and read a verse or two with sincerity and humbleness, and in some of our homes the Quran is merely an object of decoration kept in book shelves without being touched and recited.

It is true that the Quran should be respected but that doesn't mean that it should be left neglected on high shelves without the true purpose being fulfilled, which is to read, understand and practice all that's mentioned in it.

True that the Quran is in Arabic, which is not our mother tongue....but that isn't a valid excuse of not reading it. We master so many foreign languages in order to join special universities or big organizations in different parts of the why this attitude towards the language of this divine Book...the language of Jannah?

No doubt, it's hard for some us to recite the Quran properly and understand it but very few might know that is more pleasing to Allah.

Ummul Mu'mineen, Aishah narrated that Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said,

"He who falters while reciting the Quran and finds it difficult, for him will be a double reward."(Bukhari & Muslim)

SubhanAllah! Allah is so merciful to His slaves. And we slaves are so ungrateful to Him. We are ignoring and neglecting His precious gift.

We are hesitant to join special schools of Quran recitation and related subjects or let our young go for it, insisting that it's not that important and can be done at home…in fear of being called extremists. Strange, how we're ever ready to pursue worldly knowledge and reach the highest degree…,

But when it comes to knowledge of the Quran or Sunnah, it's quite the opposite.

Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said ,

"No people gather in one of the houses of Allah to recite the Book of Allah and teach it to one another, but that tranquility descends upon them, mercy overshadows them and the angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him." (Muslim)

He (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) advised Abu Dharr:

"O Abu Dharr! That you set out in the morning to learn one verse of the Quran is better for you than a hundred rakahs of Prayer."(Ibn Majah)

Still, there are many of us who are memorizing the Quran from cover to cover and learning its proper recitation and pronunciation ma-sha-Allah. But then, some of us don't reflect on what we read and memorize, i.e. we fail to act on what Allah orders in His Book and to refrain from what He prohibits. We fail to fear and love Allah, trust Him, believe in His oneness. We fail to keep up the five daily prayers, keep up family ties and to be honest in our dealings and we're hesitant to follow the best of men, Prophet Muhammad's way of life.

This is because we don't understand what we read and memorize of the Quran and we don't take time out to ponder and think over its meanings, find out its beautiful secrets, relate to its beautiful verses and apply them to our lives.

One of my dear teachers once confessed that she's scared to die before she masters the Quran and its secrets. Ma-sha-Allah, may Allah help her in achieving her goal and accept from her.

Reading and memorizing the Quran with total sincerity and devotion while pondering over its meanings, implementing them in our lives and then teaching it to others carries so much reward ma-sha-Allah. Through this glorious Book we can establish a direct connection with Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala by understanding His message and following His guidance. The peace and solace that one feels after that is indescribable.

Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said ,

"The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told [on the Day of Judgment] to recite carefully as he recited when he was in the world, for he will reach his station at the last verse he recites." (At-Trimidhi)

Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) also said ,

"By this book Allah exalts some people and lowers others."(Muslim)

"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah." (2:2)

The Reason for the Downfall of Muslims:-

In the present world when we find our fellow Muslims in a sorry state...being oppressed and insulted, it is due to the fact that we are not following the Almighty's instructions and advices mentioned in His Book and are ignoring His Messenger's Sunnah.

This Miraculous Book of Allah contains the solution to the problems Muslims face today...Had we taken care in   reading, understanding and following the words of Allah sincerely, we would not be facing many of the difficulties that the   Muslim world finds itself in today.

"And this is a Book which We have revealed (which is) blessed: so follow it and fear Allah so that you may receive mercy" (6:155)

This is the Book which will help us and support us insha'Allah in this world and also in the next…how, then, are we so ignorant? This Book of Allah will support its readers and followers, insha'Allah, on the Day of Judgment when no soul shall benefit another.

Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said,

"Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who used to recite it."   (Muslim)

The Gems and Jewels it Contains…:-

This magnificent Book not only has answers to all our questions but Allah gives us beautiful and touching examples and parables to illustrate His message, give glad tidings to the believers and warn the wrongdoers.

"If We had sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from the fear of Allah. And these examples we present to the people that perhaps they will give thought." (59:21)

" proceed throughout the earth and observe how was the end of those who denied."(3:137)

"Have you not considered how Allah present an example [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they'll be reminded." (14:24, 25)

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, comforts the believers who are oppressed, and those facing calamities and trials. He strengthens them and gives them glad tidings through various beautiful verses in His Book, which when   recited and understood pleases the heart, calms the soul and motivates us to have patience and hold on to His  guidance.

"So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers." (3:139)

"And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers." (3:141)

The Quran consists of some wonderful stories that are written to be read and enjoyed by people of all ages. The stories have special effects on the heart and mind, serving as lessons, glad tidings and admonition for those who read. SubhanAllah, they are also a healing for the various diseases of the heart.

The Quran also has some beautiful du'aas or supplications which can be repeated while in prayer or any other time during the day in order to obtain Allah's mercy, love and acceptance.

"…Our Lord so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous." (3:193)

"…Our Lord give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the fire." (2:201)

Many have been surprised to read about scientific facts and details in the Quran which have only recently been discovered. These facts were revealed to Rasoolullah ( p.b.u.h) more than fourteen hundred years ago. In His Book, Allah points to the beautifully created universe where all things run in order by a specially devised divine plan, thus filling one's heart with awe and creating in him an urge to learn more about the mystical signs and beauty surrounding him.

"Does man think we will not assemble his bones? Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips."(75:3, 4)

"He released the two seas,(bodies of fresh & salty water),meeting [side by side]; Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses. (55:19,20)

Precious Indeed:-

SubhanAllah…One can go on and on describing the merits and virtues of the Quran.....but mere words can't describe its excellence. It's a divine Book…a precious gift, a valuable treasure given by Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, to mankind. It's too precious to be left untouched on high shelves…too precious be kept back after reading a few lines without understanding what Allah's message to us   is.....too precious to ignore this message and move on in life like stray cattle...!!

It is this precious quality of the Quran through which hundreds of people accept Islam each year, in awe of its eloquent verses, precise words and astounding meanings which penetrate their innermost souls and shake the very roots of the being.

Allah mentions a beautiful characteristic of the believers in Surah Az-Zumar;

"Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration.

The skins shiver therefrom, of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance ( i.e., mention) of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He Guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray; for him there is no guide."(39:23)

May Allah guide us all, make us true believers and make us sincere followers of His Book! Ameen! I end with this beautiful du'aa of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)

"O Allah I'm Your slave, the son of Your male slave and the son of Your female slave. My forehead is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is assured and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You with every name that You have named yourself with, revealed in Your book, taught anyone of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress." (Ahmed)

And all praise belongs to Allah Who taught us this information. May the best of His peace and blessings be on our beloved Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and all those who follow them in righteousness.
